In January 2016, a collective of self-organized graduate students working under the generous guidance of several faculty members affiliated with the Moving Image Studies (MIMS) graduate minor formed an official student group, the Moving Image and Media Studies Graduate Group (MIMSGG). Our collective provides an interdisciplinary forum for graduate students and faculty with shared interests in the scholarship, technologies, artistic practices, critical theory, and teaching central to the study and production of moving images and media. Over two years of rapidly growing membership, we have developed a group that serves as an active resource for bringing together many individuals and energies already dedicated to working with moving images and media across the UMN Twin Cities campus.

Our active membership spans a multitude of disciplines and departments, including Cultural Studies & Comparative Literature, American Studies, Asian Languages & Literature, German, Scandinavian & Dutch, Musicology, English, Art, French & Italian, Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies, Communication Studies, Geography, Anthropology, and Sociology. Off campus, our members volunteer at the Trylon Cinema, the Twin Cities Film Fest, the Arab Film Festival, and other events and spaces around the Twin Cities.
